Oil paint on a handmade canvas - 2016

"Elizabeth Peyton inspired me to thin certain areas of the painting to create a “washed” effect."

This is a painting I completed with only transparent oil paint colours such as Lemon Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian and Prussian Blue. To build up tones and shading it was important for me to overlay thin layers of paint to ensure I keep within the transparency. Elizabeth Peyton inspired me to thin certain areas of the painting to create a “washed” effect. I like the amount of realism that was captured even though I was restricted to transparent colours. This piece could have been improved by adding objects in the background to add a bigger sense of perspective.
