Still Life Opaque Oil Painting

Updated: Sep 10, 2018

Painting from a still life study I set up consisting of scattered leaves and bones

Oil paint on a handmade canvas - 2016

"I only used 4 colours of paint for this piece such as Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Black and White."

I only used 4 colours of paint for this piece such as Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Black and White. The still life I set up to paint from is of bones, small pieces of leaves and tea. I wasn’t sure whether to use a white background or not as I felt it would look too plain and colourless. I acknowledged that the colour from the objects reflected onto the background, no longer making making it a white background. Hues and shadows of colours bounced off the bones of which I then painted in an exaggerated form. I am very happy with how this piece turned out and would like to use the effects of reflecting colours in my future work.
